Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are the lessons one on one?
Yes; each student works with their own tutor. Other students will be having their lessons at the same time, but they will have their own tutor to work with as well.
  • Are the lessons in person?
They can be. We are able to offer face to face lessons and online lessons - and we can be flexible between them. If you are ever unable to attend a face to face lesson, we will offer to do the lesson online instead.
  • How do the online lessons work?
We are subscribed to an online whiteboard, which effectively serves as an exercise book. The site will save the student's work each week and can be accessed by both student and tutor at any time. We also host a Zoom call alongside this. These lessons are also one on one.
  • Can you help with school work?
Yes, we are able to help with school work, though it is important to stress that our priority each lesson is teaching. We will guide your child through the work, but we will not do the work for them. We are also happy to work on subjects and topics suggested by your child’s teacher if they are willing to send them either to yourself or direct to the office.
  • Is tuition useful for gifted students?
Our tuition is just as beneficial for extension as it is for catching up. If your child is finding their schoolwork too easy, we are able to provide the challenge that they are looking for. Some schools offer additional courses, such as Level 2 Further Mathematics or GCSE Statistics to their gifted students and we are equipped to help with these subjects and help your child stay ahead.
  • What if I can't make my lesson?
If you are ever struggling to make your lesson, we ask that you let us know as soon as you can. If the problem is reaching the office, we will be able to offer an online lesson for that week. For other problems, we will try to reschedule your lesson wherever possible.
  • Do you tutor for the 11+ exams?
While studying for the SATs and GCSEs is our priority, we can cater for 11+ students as well and can work on both verbal and non-verbal reasoning alongside our usual lesson content. Extra homework will be given to students studying for the entrance exams to better help them prepare and tutors will go through any areas that they find tricky during the lessons.
  • How does the free assessment work?
The student will work with a tutor, usually the manager, who will go through questions with them, based on the school curriculum. Notes will be made on the methods the student uses and the areas in which they struggle. Feedback will then be provided at the end of the assessment, so you can make an informed decision about how you want to proceed.
  • Why do the students play games?
We are keen for the lessons to feel different to a school environment, so students can relax more. We have found that this helps students work harder and helps to build a rapport with the tutors so that they feel more comfortable talking about the areas they struggle with. With this in mind, we offer short games and sweets during the lessons to incentivise the students and help break the lesson up into more manageable chunks. These are given out at the tutor's discretion.
